“I’m not totally sure.” Gustavo walked toward Alaric, and remembered the warmth of the kiss they’d shared after the egg had reached out to the three of them. They’d both been feeding Phillip, did that have something to do with what he was feeling? “I’ve never had blood lust before. But just now, as you were killing the elk, I really wanted to dive in there and help you. I needed its heart in my mouth. I… desired its hot blood.”

“You’re not a hunter, you’re a guardian.” Alaric sounded very matter of fact as he closed the last little distance between them and took Gustavo in his arms. It was the first time they’d touched like that without Phillip nearby. Normally Phillip initiated the touches by the act of feeding on them, although they had hugged slightly standing over the egg.

The hug was warmer and more inviting than any Gustavo had had in recent years. Sure he’d been intimate with a fair number of men, human and shifter, but Alaric and Phillip were quickly becoming something more intense. He wanted to melt against Alaric’s powerful chest. He bent slightly so he could put his head on Alaric’s shoulder.

“Gargoyles aren’t hunters. Even though we require meat for sustenance, we’ve rarely had to hunt for ourselves.”

“Must be nice.” Alaric shook his head, then ran his fingers through Gustavo’s hair, leaving tingles of pleasure in their wake. “No…I don’t think it would be. I enjoy hunting too much. The adrenalin rush when I’m flying down my prey. There’s nothing else like it.”

“I know. I think I felt that too.” Gustavo clung to Alaric. “It’s so different from anything I’ve felt before. I’m pretty sure I was feeling your emotions.”

Alaric hummed, and a momentary darkness rolling off him felt like he was frowning. “I was afraid of something like this happening if I…we…allowed Phillip to keep feeding from us.”

“Do you mean we’re bonding to him?” Gustavo had heard of that. People who fed a vampire more than a couple of times became like servants to him, but what he was just feeling didn’t feel like that, exactly. It was more like a bond between the three of them, not just Phillip controlling them.

“Maybe, I’m not sure.” Alaric kissed the top of Gustavo’s head, then breathed out in his hair. “If it was a regular vampire bond, we wouldn’t be picking up on each other’s feelings. I can tell you’re concerned about this, but not really scared.”

A chuckle rose up and out of Gustavo. “It takes a lot to really scare me. But yes, I’m concerned. I never planned on getting…attached to anyone, let alone two alphas.”

With a parting kiss on the head, Alaric took his arms from Gustavo and paced a few feet away. “Two alphas? Yes, I guess Phillip is an alpha now, isn’t he? Whether he likes it or not, he’s the vampire lord of Denver, as long as a more powerful vampire doesn’t show up and overthrow him.”

The idea of that happening brought a growl rolling out of Gustavo. He was supposed to remain neutral in the affairs of the other supernatural races. The only time he was supposed to intervene was if a conflict threatened to expose them to the humans. “I couldn’t let that happen. Phillip is almost as important to me as the egg.”

Alaric left out a long breath, then nodded. “Right. The egg. I wonder if the egg has something to do with this. It’s not like I have any choice in the matter. I’m Dulcina’s Alpha. But you and Phillip…you could both go your separate ways.”

“No.” The very idea of leaving the egg made Gustavo sadder than he’d ever been before. “I’m here for the egg, and the little dragon inside, for as long as they need me.”

Alaric stopped pacing and returned to Gustavo to hug him again. “Thank you. That means so much to me. Over the past couple of days, I’ve been trying to think of a way to convince you and Phillip to stay on with me.” He kissed Gustavo.

His lips were hot.

Gustavo’s knees threatened to buckle, and he hugged Alaric for all he was worth.

“You know this still doesn’t make a lot of sense.” Gustavo managed to force words out when their lips finally parted. “We’ve not known each other that long. But…” the words eluded him.

“I know.” Alaric kissed him again.

Letting the fading adrenaline surge up in him again, Gustavo returned the kiss. Alaric’s heat filled him. He wanted everything Alaric had to give. Nothing mattered beyond the dragon in his arms.

Alaric pulled at Gustavo’s clothing. “Sometimes being the type of shifters who can shift with clothes on can be irritating.”

“Yeah it can.” Gustavo fumbled with the buttons on Alaric’s black silk shirt. Their tension had been building since the fight. With the egg reaching out to them, it felt like something wanted them all to be together. There was no way he could deny that Alaric was extremely attractive.

Getting his belt undone, Alaric yanked Gustavo’s pants open, then pulled his shirt up and over his head. It made Gustavo momentarily abandon his efforts to get Alaric’s shirt open. When he caught his shirt and then dropped it to the ground, Alaric took the opportunity to tweak his nipples. The gentle motion sent waves of passion through Gustavo.

As he returned to working on unbuttoning Alaric’s shirt, Alaric kissed him again. His lips were even hotter than before. It felt like their building passion was drawing more and more heat from inside him.

“You’re incredible,” Alaric muttered as their lips parted.

“So are you.” Gustavo finally got Alaric’s shirt open and free of his pants. He was a little surprised by a dragon having a hairy chest, expecting it to be smooth, like the scales in his reptilian shape, but he wasn’t going to complain. It made him appear stronger and manlier.

Gustavo combed his fingers through the dark hair and bent so he could suck on first one nipple then the other.

A hearty moan escaped Alaric’s lips. “Oh man.” He pressed Gustavo’s face to his chest, and nearly off-balanced him.

“Here.” Gustavo lifted Alaric up, then gently laid him on the meadow’s thick grass. “This will be a lot easier.”

“Yes, it will.” Alaric smiled as Gustavo lowered himself across his body.

Gustavo slowly worked Alaric’s nipple, nibbling at it before licking it, then kissing his way across the huge hairy mounds of his chest to the other one. He ran his hands down to the open jeans that were waiting for him to push them down. As he kissed across Alaric’s rippled torso, he pushed against the jeans, until Alaric arched his hips to make it easier for them to slide off.
