Announcing the Winners of the Second Annual QSF Flash Fiction Contest

Queer Sci Fi Flash Fiction contestHey all,

OK, we’ve gone through all the entries – covers and stories – for the flash fiction contest. There were some amazing stories in there, and overall the level of sophistication was very high. Judging was done blind, so we didn’t know who the winners were until the stories were chosen.

We had 115 to choose from – a huge increase from last year’s 16 stories. Congrats to everyone who entered!

We’ve chosen the winners – no easy task. And so, without further delay (drumroll please) – For the stories:

First Place – Self-Actuating, by Jenn Burke
Second Place – Anomalous, by Carole Cummings
Third Place – The Road Block, by Aidee Ladnier
First Runner Up – Zero G Corn Pies, by Astrid Amara
Second Runner Up – Apart From You, by Ofelia Grand

And now for the covers:

First Place – Bey Deckard
Second Place – Alicia Nordwell
Third Place – CE Kilgore
First Runner Up – Bronwyn Heeley
Second Runner Up – Ethereal Ealain

We are about to start production on the eBook, and will let you all know when it is available. We’re thrilled with the amazing response to the contest, and want to thank all the participants. I’d also like to give special thanks to our other judges – Angel Martinez, Beth Brock, and Cari Zee, and to Freddy Mackay, who helped immensely behind the scenes, and to Dreamspinner Publisher Elizabeth North, who suggested we do this whole thing in time for Rainbow Con.

This was a big learning experience for us all too – next year it will be even better.

I’ll post the first story and cover a little later today!

xoxo

–Scott, QSF
