ANNOUNCEMENT: Not Your Villain, by C.B. Lee

Not Your Villain

QSFer C.B. Lee has a new queer YA hero-villain book out: Bells Broussard thought he had it made when his superpowers manifested early. Being a shapeshifter is awesome. He can change his hair whenever he wants and, if putting on a binder for the day is too much, he’s got it covered. But that was before he became the country’s most wanted villain. After discovering a massive cover-up by the Heroes’ League of Heroes, Bells and his friends Jess, Emma, and Abby set off on a secret mission to find the Resistance. Meanwhile, power-hungry former hero Captain Orion is on … Read more

SPACE: NASA Forgets About Lesbians

Mars - pixabay

NASA apparently floated sending an all-female crew to Mars – and people have pointed out the slight sapphic issue with that plan. Helen Sharman, the first British astronaut to go to space, made the revelation during at an event during the New Scientist Live festival in London. Sharman, who was part of private British space programme Project Juno, said the report highlighted concerns about male and female astronauts having sex during the 18-month trip to Mars. Because of this, NASA allegedly said that all-female crews would be best because women work better as a team. NASA proposed this idea because women were … Read more

For Writers: Do You Have MD?

I just came across this article on the BBC website. While my cynical side thinks it might be a clever promo for an upcoming book, it is quite interesting and I think it speaks to writers in a very unique way … http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-sh/the_daydream_that_never_stops

ANNOUNCEMENT/GUEST POST: The Long Past & Other Tales, by Ginn Hale

The Long Past & Other Stories

QSFer Ginn Hale has a new queer alt history/steampunk/weird west book out. Guest Post Hands on Research in Fantastical Worlds Often when the subject of research is brought up, fantasy authors will cite books and museums, or recount interviews and hours spent pouring over old newspapers, police records and magazines. You can almost hear the microfiche whirring around them and smell musty pages. To be honest I love that stuff myself. Original sources can be incredibly important to a book, particularly if it’s set in an alternate history or if the plot relies on real events or people. (The Long … Read more

Blade Runner Gets the Honest Trailer Treatment

Blade Runner Honest Trailer

Did you love Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner? You might want to skip Screen Junkie’s latest Honest Trailer if it ranks high up in your all-time favorite sci-fi flicks. This is not a spoiler alert as much it is a warning to fans of the series that want to keep this sci-fi masterpiece just the way they remember it. “This ain’t your daddy’s bright and shiny sci-fi,” Honest Trailers narrator Jon Baily jokes. He’s right. It’s your grandpa’s dark, tense Phillip K. Dick adaptation that has more cuts than Batman’s C-list villain, Zsasz.

Star Trek Discovery Review Redux

OK. I admit it. I’m a hypocrite. One week ago I was vowing to cancel my CBS All Access subscription because the Star Trek reboot sucked. Yet, I watched it again. And I am writing about it again. For me, the new Star Trek is like that six-month old ‘thing’ in the freezer. You know you ought to just toss it in the garbage, but you can’t resist opening that plastic container, sniffing the contents and then defrosting it just to know for sure what it actually is. Well, I defrosted episode three, and I think I know what Star … Read more
