Discussion: Changing the Paranormal Paradigm

paranormal

Today’s topic comes from QSFer Freddy Mackay:

Changing the paranormal paradigm in LGBTQ fiction. Some writers go outside what we’ve seen in gay romance, but they are borrowing from straight fiction, are there any more ways we can change paranormal to make it *new* or are we dependent on character and plot.

It’s a great question. We’ve seen such an explosion of paranormal titles – for a while, it was vampires, then shifters of all sorts. What’s new/next for LGBT paranormal fiction? How can we break out of the box?

  1. This is an exciting discussion. For the writers in the group, there’s an upcoming anthology with an open call for submissions. The theme is UnCommon Origins. Fighting Monkey Press is looking for “Creation Stories, Feral Children, Spontaneous Evolution, anything you can think of which relates to the beginning of something new and unique.” See more at http://www.fightingmonkeypress.com/submissions/.
