Two bits of info today on Dumbledore’s sexuality in the new series:
Johnny Depp is confirmed to be playing Dumbledore’s love interest in the Fantastic Beasts sequel. The Pirates of the Caribbean star was reported to have been brought on for the Harry Potter spin-off franchise last week, with people guessing on which character Depp would be playing. Director David Yates confirmed to fan site The Leaky Cauldron Depp will be playing Gellert Grindelwald, the former friend and love interest of the Hogwarts headteacher.
And Rowling teased fans about how far she will go with Dumbledore’s youthful explorations:
“I can’t tell you everything I’d like to say because obviously it’s a five-part story and there’s lots to unpack in that relationship. I will say you’ll see Dumbledore as a younger man and quite a troubled man because he wasn’t always the sage. He was always very clever. We’ll see him at what I think was the formative period of his life. As far as his sexuality is concerned, watch this space.”
