It’s funny, but I realized there’s a lot of comfort reads for me, which aren’t exactly cozy. :) I guess I was confusing the two. Some of my comforts are exciting, exploring new frontiers of fantasy, and edge of the seat danger. Anne Rice’s ‘Vampire Chronicles’ and ‘Cry to Heaven’ would fall under this category. As would Storm Constantine’s ‘Crown of Silence’. As would Sarah Monette’s Felix Harrowgate books. As would Elizabeth Bear’s ‘Blood and Iron’, ‘Whiskey and Water’, ‘Ink and Steel’, and ‘Hell and Earth’.
Mine are Bone Rider by J. Fally, Anything by JL Langley. The Heaven Sent books by Jet Mykles. The Sinner’s Gin books by Rhys Ford.
The Dispossessed, by Ursula K. LeGuin. is my enduring favorite; followed by almost any Jane Austin; Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion, and Sense and Sensibility at the top of the list.
