FOR READERS

Today’s reader topic comes from QSFer J. Scott Coatsworth:

Have you ever had that a-ha moment when reading a book, when the cover image suddenly makes sense? “Oh, it’s from that scene!” or “Ah, that’s what those squiggles are”.

  1. As a reader, I do have those moments. As a writer, my work is often affected by the cover design. On two books (which shall go nameless and sub-genre-less) the cover design was so marvelous, it inspired a new and important chapter in each book. In a forthcoming one (no idea when) the man on the cover is, once you start reading, clearly the MC…but there’s also something on the cover that’s a set-up for the rest of the series…if they ever get done!!! So I’m hoping for an a-ha moment (not a biggie) when reading this first one. My apologies if this is too direct, but I wanted to share the impact a talented cover artist can have on a writer, as well as the fun I have in coming to a moment in the book that’s “forecast” by the cover.
