FOR READERS
Today’s reader topic comes from QSFer Brian Cherry:
“Books that defy conventional categories.”
Oooh, I love this one. What are some of your favorites that didn’t seem to fit neatly into a pre-defined marketing niche? And what did you love about them?
Writers: This is a reader chat – you are welcome to join it, but please do not reference your own works directly. Thanks!
Best is the Raised by Wolves series by W.A.Hoffman. The first book feels like a very well-written well-researched m/m, but it becomes more real and more complicated, blurring sexuality boundaries, gender boundaries, etc and unfortunately because it calls so well to m/m readers at the start, the poor author received a ton of criticism for later volumes because expectations didn’t meet the content. Which is a damn shame because it’s *excellent*.
Ok it’s not sci-fi but it fit this so well!
Plus, there should be some discussion that books that deft category are often beaten down for it, not held up. :/
