FOR READERS: Do People Really Do That?

FOR READERS

Today’s reader topic comes from QSFer Olivia Wylie:

Are there descriptions in fiction of emotions, actions, etc – e.g. fainting, blushing red-hot – that you’ve read but never seen in life? Have you ever thought ‘wait, do people do this and I’ve never noticed?’

  1. I avoid the extreme reactions as they are limited to specific conditions, assuming the writer has any integrity. Somehow the verisimilitude should be pre-established.

For example, fainting is either very low blood pressure, sometimes from meds, or from a tight corset. Hmmm, isn’t corset training a TG trope?

On another note, there is a Congressman, will not name names, who blushes deep red across his cheekbones when he’s questioned about his integrity or that of his investigations. It looks like he emptied a bottle of rouge on his face. That is most likely rosacea.
