FOR READERS

Today’s reader topic comes from QSFers Charli Coty and Anne Barwell:

What do you look for in a series? Characters you love, an overarching storyline, episodic installments? Series or standalone? Series arc or shared universe with different MCs taking centre stage?

  1. I prefer standalones, but with glimpses of MCs from previous books. I don’t know how many times have I started in the middle (because the blurbs of previous books haven’t managed to made me interested), just for me to come back and read previous books because of those glimpses. But those glimpses shouldn’t be overwhelming – they shouldn’t confuse new readers, but at the same time they should be enough to stir interest about previous MCs in them.
