Do you consider steampunk to be Fantasy or SF? To me it can be either depending on how written and the overall story line.
it’s a good question. Some subgenres generally fit pretty neatly into a larger one – space travel or time travel generally fits well with sci fi in general, and urban fantasy is genewrally a good fit for fantasy (though there are always exceptions.
My initial reaction is that steampunk fits under sci fi… but then, maybe not… could it also fit under fantasy or paranormal?
So my questions today: What is steampunk, to you? How would you classify it? And what are some of the best examples of the genre?
