My Gay Fantasies

Dancers of ArunNo, not those fantasies. I’m talking about great Fantasy novels that have also included LGBT characters.

The first one I ever found was The Dancers of Arun by Elizabeth K. Lynn, a fantasy novel that included a pairing between two men, one of whom was crippled, and was one of the most beautiful things I had read up until that point in sci fi or fantasy.

Lynn also famously wrote A Different Light, an early gay sci fi book that was the inspiration for the chain of LGBT bookstores that just recently faded into history.

In mainstream Fantasy, though, LGBT characters have historically been few and far between.

I hope that’s changing. There are so many authors on the LGBT side that are writing Fantasy with LGBT characters now – I’d love to see some of them cross over into the mainstream market.

So who out there is writing great gay Fantasy these days? Please sound off if it’s your niche, or if you have some great titles to recommend.
