FILM: Wonder Woman Trailer

Wonder Woman - Gal Gadot

“I am Diana of Themyscira, daughter of Hippolyta. In the name of all that is good, your wrath upon this world is over,” Gal Gadot triumphantly declares in the latest Wonder Woman trailer, which she first shared on Twitter following her and costar Chris Pine’s appearance Saturday night on Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards. After promising on Friday an “even bigger surprise” than the stunning poster, the new footage turned out to be a spine-tingling look at the character’s first ever feature-length film. REVIEW: Logan

Logan

LOGAN, the latest and last (for now) solo Wolverine movie, was not kidding around when it opted for Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” as its trailer music. It’s not just the severity of the title, but the elegiac lyrics, and the dying man as guiding spirit / inspiration. Some trailers lie but this one spoke world-weary truth. This is exactly the kind of movie James Mangold, who also directed the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line, delivers. Wolverine’s mutation were never those iconic claws, which were a science experiment to weaponize him, but his ability to instantly heal which also slows down his aging … Read more

Renewal – QSF’s 2017 Flash Fiction Contest

Renewal

Every year, QSF holds a flash fiction contest to create an amazing new anthology of queer speculative fiction stories. The theme for 2017 is “Renewal”: Take that however you will – a new beginning after a nuclear war, a birth of a werewolf baby, the reforging of a fantasy sword, etc. It’s up to you. We’ll be accepting stories from across the … Read more

NEWS: That Zombie Outbreak Was Probably fake

Indiana Zombies

Indiana residents can breathe easy after emergency radio alerts of a zombie attack were deemed to be the product of a hack. The broadcasts, which were “replayed frequently” on a Winchester station around noon on Wednesday, warned of the flesh-eating attack as well as a related disease outbreak from dead bodies, authorities in Randolph County announced on Facebook. “There is no local emergency,” the sheriff’s department assured in a statement. “We have contacted the radio station and notified the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. Again there is no emergency or disease outbreak in Randolph County.” By Nina Golgowsku – Full … Read more

FOR WRITERS AND READERS: Catfishing

Catfishing

FOR WRITERS AND READERS Today’s reader topic comes from QSFer Angel Martinez: Let’s talk Catfishing – the practice of assuming a fictitious identity in order to pursue relationships with unwitting victims. Sometimes writers pretend to be entirely different people – creating a fictional life solely for the purpose of sales and/or sympathy. Just to be clear, we’re not talking about pen names here, which many writers use for totally legitimate reasons. Instead we’re talking about large scale deceptions – like when a writer pretends to be an abused teenager, or fakes a major illness, or co-opts whole-cloth an identity not … Read more
