Discussion: Alternate History – When Things Changed

JFK alternative history

Today’s topic comes from QSFer John Allenson: “When things changed. What stories do you like that rewrite an event in history? Examples: What if Napolean had decided to invade Scotland rather than Russia? What if Abraham Lincoln had lost the election to become POTUS?” I like this one. It’s an area of speculative fiction we don’t discuss all that often – the future as seen from the past. There are so many moments when history spun on a dime and went off in another direction because of a single event or series of events. So where would you change the … Read more

Announcement: Mythologically Torqued Anthology

Mythologically Torqued

Torquere has a new Fantasy/Mythology book out: Mythology, whether classic or modern, has always taken readers on a magical ride. Mythologically Torqued, volume I, takes those tales from days of old, or more recent history, and places a unique spin on the beloved lore. The gods of Olympus make appearances, as do deities from Japanese, Norse, and other belief systems. With rampant sexual desires, these gods manage to slake their thirst for passions of the flesh in a rather untraditional manner…if the oral traditions passed down from generation-to-generation were at all accurate. These fifteen short stories are penned by both … Read more

The Sci of Scifi: Research Sources

We all know how important research is and there are many sources available for hunting down those important facts. Sometimes I find I need to know more detailed information. The sort of details that comes from personal experience. Finding expert testimony can be challenging. I’ve found two excellent sources that are very helpful. The first is Quora. This is a very cool forum. It’s free to join and they’ll send you a newsletter type digest every day if you’d like. I don’t think you have to join to read, but you would have to join to ask a question or comment. The … Read more

Discussion: Social Media Interactions With Authors/Readers

Social Media

With social media, it’s easier than ever for readers to reach out to authors, and vice versa. Since I’ve been on Facebook and involved in the LGBT fiction community here, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed interacting with an author in real time as I read one of their books. But easy access can also have its downsides. What are some of the best things that have happened for you as a result of these interactions as a writer or a reader? And the worst? Come join the discussion.

Eli Easton Interviews her Audiobook Narrator

Eli Easton is interviewing Matthew Shaw, the narrator of her supernatural M/M story, How To Howl At The Moon, today at Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words. It was a first in many ways for narrator Matthew Shaw (first M/M story, male on male sex scenes etc). It’s a fascinating interview and Eli is giving away a audiobook to boot. Review: “Urban Shaman” by Lyn Gala

Genre: Gay Urban Paranormal Length: Novel Note: I’m going to come right out and say it. I’ve reviewed Lyn Gala before—because she’s absolutely phenomenal. So this review is going to be totally bias. You’ve been warned. (Okay, I’m sort of joking about this review being a complete fangirl moment. Sort of.) Detective Miguel Rassin, the precinct’s biggest troublemaker, knows he’s being punished when he gets paired with the precinct’s biggest asshole, Detective Rob Jackson. In an act of either complete brilliance or desperation (or both), the captain blesses the duo with the most sensitive case in this part of New … Read more
