Promotions Week: Keywords and Categories

Promotions Week

It’s time for another theme week at Queer Sci Fi. This time around, we’re talking promo. :)

Here are our topics for the week:

Promotions Week: Where to Get Started – making a schedule
Promotions Week: What to include – Guest Post vs. Announcement vs. Cover Reveal
Promotions Week: Keywords and Categories
Promotions Week: Social Media and Reviews
Promotions Week: Physical Promo Options
Promotions Week: Contests and Giveaways

Day Three:
Keywords and Categories

When you’re promoting a book, there are so many things to keep track of. But one of the most basic of these is which keywords to use to describe it – how do you figure out which are the most relevant? And what category is your story – and perhaps more importantly, which category will bring you more sales?

As a newbie to the whole thing, I’m relying on our more experienced voices here.

How do you select the keywords you use to describe your story? Where do you actually use them? If you self publish, how do you decide how to categorize your story? Which categories have the best sales? The worst? Go!
