About The Book

Life after the Crash.Over a century after the end of the Earth, life goes on in Redemption, the sole remaining Lunar colony, and possibly the last outpost of humankind in the Solar System. But with an existential threat burrowing its way into the Moon’s core, humanity must recolonize the homeworld.

Twenty brave dropnauts set off on a mission to explore the empty planet. Four of them—Rai, Hera, Ghost and Tien—have trained for two-and-a-half years for the Return. They’re bound for Martinez Base, just outside the Old Earth city of San Francisco.

But what awaits them there will turn their assumptions upside down—and in the process, either save or destroy what’s left of humanity.

The Review

This book is part of the creative universe of Liminal Sky, but can absolutely be read as a stand alone.  Once again, Coatsworth has packed the pages with a cast of characters and action and amazing world building details.  This book focuses on the four members of a team heading back to earth, facing what is left after the Crash.  The narrative follows each of our intrepid Dropnauts as they navigate the new world, while also giving us flashbacks to their histories.  There is so much going on that it almost makes it hard to review without giving away something!

My favorite character development was Ghost.  He is not the easiest to like at the beginning, but he works so hard not to be a hurtful person, that you can’t help but root for him.  The LGBTQ elements are so seamlessly woven into the story, with their relationships a sweet and subtle contrast to the battles they face.  This is a great addition to the other books in this universe and a great read for science fiction fans.

In writing this bio I am taking a rare break from reading! I always have a book on hand just in case there is time to sneak in a chapter or two. As a military spouse and a mom of two boys, it is amazing how often I am hurrying up to wait. Luckily for me I don’t have a favorite genre so I get lots of fun authors to choose from. My education was in sociology and mental health counseling, so stories with strong character development are my favorites. Happily Ever After is the best part of romance for me because real life is hard enough.
