About The Book
What is the value of a lie when you’re protecting whom you love? Dream analyst Ursula is experiencing painful visions of an unknown desert.
At first, her therapist, Jill, suggests it’s only a dream. But when Ursula suffers another vision while hooked up to Jill’s dream reader, both realise that there may be more at stake. While Ursula is keen to uncover what her visions mean and why she’s having them, Jill and her partner, Mackenzie, struggle to keep the truth a secret – Ursula’s visions are actually memories.
Occam’s Dream delicately balances psychology, truth, and relationship against the sacrifices one must make for the sake of the world, and poses the ultimate question: Is it ever possible to truly control a narrative?
The Review
“Occam’s Dream” is a thoughtful, slow-paced science-fiction mystery built around Swan Industries, a revolutionary carbon converter, and the strange dreams that begin to connect the characters.
The story is largely character- and conversation-driven, with the pieces gradually falling into place until a final revelation puts everything that came before in a new light. The characters are well fleshed out and believable, with both foibles and aspirational acts.
A quiet, cerebral read for anyone who enjoys a mystery that unfolds patiently rather than rushing toward its answers.
The Reviewer
About Kristi: Former extensive beta reader and story reviewer on pre-Russian-takeover LJ. I came from Tolkien/HP/Wraeththu/other fandoms to write some m/m original fiction. I’m so glad to be at QRI as an author and I want to be a voice in the community through reading and reviewing. Looking forward to reading other genres of stories and adding my voice so others can have more feedback and commentary.
