About The Book
Sarah Colby has always run from commitment. But after more than a year on the road following her musical dreams, even she yearns for a little stability. Her sister Annie is only too happy to welcome her back home. When she meets Annie’s boss, Nobel Keller, she’s immediately drawn to the woman’s youthful good looks and dangerous charisma. The first night together leaves Sarah aching for more, but the second shows her the true price of passion.
Welcome to Columbus, where the only thing hotter than the music scene is what happens after the last note is played.
Running from Forever is my first book from K. Aten and the first FF story that I’ve read. It is a slow burn romance but is quick with the physical intimacy. It has a slightly different take on vampires and how it’s a virus, how they’re created and feed for energy etc. Sarah moves back home with her sister and is introduced to Annie’s boss, Keller. One encounter isn’t enough though but there’s a secret that Keller has to reveal and will change everything between the two women.
I enjoyed the characters of the story. It was very easy for me to relate to Sarah and Annie’s sibling relationship which made it more fun to read their interactions, both the highs and lows. Keller may be strong physically with her vampire abilities but she definitely has an emotional vulnerability and is willing to wait on Sarah to come around to all of the revelations. It took a while for me to like Sarah’s character with how she treats Keller to start with but you can definitely understand her wariness of the situation and what she discovers. Keller also tugs on your heartstrings a little when she reveals her softer side and how much she comes to care for Sarah in a short amount of time.
Along with the MC’s relationship in the book there is a slight plot with people around the local LGBT+ businesses being attacked. I thought that this was going to become something bigger than what it ends up being but it does lead to a big event for Keller and Sarah and a momentous moment in their relationship. Along with that there is a good dose of drama, especially in the final quarter where Sarah’s sister Annie and her girlfriend also become involved. This amped up the tension as it’s exciting to bring in another element to the story and brings us closer to all of the characters involved.
Overall this is a story I would recommend that has good character and relationship development and the intimacy between characters is hot but romantic in equal measure. I am looking forward to seeing how the group move forward with everything they now know and how they love in book two of the series.
Hello all, my name is Xanthe and I am excited to be a reviewer for the PRG.
I read a lot, every night for at least 4-5 hours and I love to get lost in the world that an author has created. The best ones leave you wanting more and at a loss for words to describe just how good it is but I’ll try my best.
I live in a small town in South West England, just me and my dog Bonnie. I work part time in administration and really enjoy my job and the people I work with which I am very aware is not always the case!
I’ll read pretty much any sub genre within the mm genre. Since discovering it a few years ago, I rarely read anything else. One thing I won’t touch is horror, a definite no no for me!
Never ask me what my favourite anything is as I’ll have to give you a list of about ten or twenty things. How am I able to pick one food, book or film out of so many that I love?!
