Did y’all know about this? I had no idea:
An adaptation of Terry Brooks’ Shannara series has long been in the works, first as a movie from Warner Bros. and Mike Newell (Prince of Persia), then as a TV series produced by Sonar Entertainment and Farah Films.
Almost a year ago, MTV acquired the Shannara series and ordered a 10-episode first season based on the pilot script by Al Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville), with Jon Favreau (Iron Man) set to direct the premiere episode. Favreau has since become an executive producer on the series and stepped down as the director of the pilot; Jonathan Liebesman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) will instead direct the first two episodes.
Can’t wait to see this – I discovered this series in Jr. High, and it remains one of my favorites.
Really? I haven’t read those books in *years*, but they were among the first fantasy novels (other than CS Lewis and Tolkien) to cross my path. I’d love to see what they do with a series. I shall have to go and dig out my ancient old copies and do a reread.
Loved them – esp. the new ones he wrote about the near future that connected everything.
Omg, I adored this series when it came out. Terry Brooks, David Eddings and Stephen Donaldson were absolutely it for me for fantasy in the 70s/80s. (after Tolkien, of course)
Me too – read the first book cover to cover in a few days.
