ANNOUNCEMENT: Luckless – Cari Z.

Luckless - Cari Z.

QSFer Cari Z. has a new bi/demi/gay dystopian fantasy romance out: “Luckless.” Evan Luck is a dragon rider with no dragon. Five years ago, his dragon gave her life defending the monster-ridden remnants of Marble, and ever since, his ability to connect empathically to another dragon had been as broken as his heart. Now he spends his days dodging his disappointed mayor, crafting arrows, fighting off the not-as-legendary-as-they-should-be beasts that’ve overrun America, and just trying to get by in the city of Forge. But when he meets newcomer Lee Caldwell, Evan thinks his lonely luck might be changing. Lee is … Read more

ANNOUNCEMENT: The Sapphire Shadow – James Wake

The Sapphire Shadow

QSFer James Wake has a new queer cyberpunk book out: “The Sapphire Shadow.” Nadia was born the heiress to a corporate empire, destined for a life of wealth and privilege in what used to be America. But she never had any interest in running things; happy to spend her days shoplifting, street racing, and doing whatever drugs she could get her hands on. Until the day her father was euthanized, anyway. Running away wasn’t good enough. Hiding would only delay the inevitable. A career in theft and burglary sounded much more appealing, not to mention how the very thought would … Read more

FOR READERS & WRITERS: Where Are the Characters dealing With Mental Illness?

mental illness - pixabay

FOR READERS & WRITERS Today’s writer topic comes from QSFer Lex Chase: Mentally ill MCs are next to impossible to come by. Especially ones that are heroes and their mental illness is not the only thing that defines them. Showtime’s Homeland gave us Claire Danes’s character who is defined as “bipolar and struggles with her demons.” This is not helpful. The military action film Mile 22 gave us Mark Wahlberg’s character who has ADHD and a few other issues and yet he is still a capable hero. We want diversity and see ourselves in stories and media. So why don’t … Read more
