TV: New DC Animated Series Will Feature Gay Lead Character

The Ray

The CW has released the first trailer for Freedom Fighters: The Ray, which will mark the first time a DC/CW series will feature an openly LGBTQ lead character.

CW Seed released an extended clip from Freedom Fighters: The Ray, as well as a synopsis for the upcoming show:

Raymond “Ray” Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a “genetic light bomb.” The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice — he could take action to help stop it. Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists.

  1. Oh wow! I didn’t know they were doing the whole “Freedom Fighters” thing! I remember when they (the 1940’s Quality Comics heroes) were revived in a couple of issues of Justice League and then had their own comic for about twelve issues! A fun memory from High School!
