My wolf howled again. The moon was full and high in the sky, making the woods brighter. I didn’t really need that; I could see in the dark. A wolf howl answered mine, the sound so primal it made my fur stand on end. I’d never heard a howl like that before. It obviously wasn’t a fellow shifter, but it wasn’t an ordinary wolf either. What was it?
I got my answer soon enough as a huge wolf stalked out of the underbrush in front of me. Its eyes glowed an eerie orange color. I’d never seen a wolf that big before and it terrified me. As I ran toward my car, dodging the underbrush in my path, I could hear the pursuit of the other wolf. I shifted immediately when I reached my hovercar and flung the door open, scrambling inside, just as the wolf emerged from the forest. It circled around the car, before it clawed the door trying to get to me. Finally it gave up and disappeared back into the woods.
I just sat there and trembled. My wolf had something to say. MATE.
Oh, that was just great. I had another word for the creature besides that. WEREWOLF. I’d always thought they were myths, I hated being wrong.
