Eternals director Chloé Zhao thinks Marvel has taken a “big risk” with its upcoming movie, the Marvel Cinematic Universe film to feature an openly gay superhero. The film is eagerly awaited by queer and non-queer fans, having been delayed a year due to the pandemic, and now Zhao has sent anticipation to feverish new heights by teasing that Marvel has taken a “very big risk” with its distinct visual style.
Zhao told SiriusXM’s Jess Cagle the film will “feel and look different” because the team experimented with shooting on unique, alien-looking locations.
“I think this is where Marvel really took the risk that we knew we wanted to shoot on location because by shooting wide-angle lenses on locations, it’s going to affect how you do visual effects,” Zhao said.
As the Eternals are based on (and in the comics the inspiration for) the Greek and Roman gods it makes sense that some of them would be LGBT.
