About The Book

I, Lochan of the famed Féyes clan, know all about fighting.

As a half-breed Elf, I have struggled against prejudice and feelings of inadequacy.

A recluse by nature, I have battled my aversion to touch and interaction with others.

To become an assassin of The Order, I have learnt to overcome the limitations of my mind and body.

But denying the power Ervyn Morryés holds over me might be the one fight I lose. The truth is—damn it all—the relentless Highlander brings me to my knees.

Note: This novelette is the second in the Order Series, and not a stand-alone installment. Reading THE MUTT is crucial for its full enjoyment.

The Review

The Highlander starts four months after the end of The Mutt, where Ervyn and Lochan first connected. In this book, we follow Lochan’s POV through to the end of their training, before moving off to their new home unit.

Lochan is very introverted compared to Ervyn, preferring peace when not training. His inner monologue is a little more in-depth than Ervyn’s, I thought, but it’s no more or less enjoyable.

It’s been four months, during which the two men have grown closer, but they now have their upcoming deployments to contend with that will send them off in different directions, as well as Lochan’s confusion as to how the two have grown so close when he was determined to keep walls up and to protect himself against emotions.

It’s a bit heartbreaking, with how he’s grown up with little else than training since his mother died, but Ervyn is changing a lot for him in such a short space of time. Ervyn’s snark and fire is a really good contrast to Lochan’s calm and poised manner, makes things interesting between them, and there’s even a hint of D/S to them when Lochan seems to submit so well when the time is right between them.

I enjoyed the pace if this story and having the chance to get to know Lochan better. It will be fun to see how they move forward, both personally and professionally, from the end of this tale.

Four stars.

The Reviewer

Hello all, my name is Xanthe and I am excited to be a reviewer for the PRG.

I read a lot, every night for at least 4-5 hours and I love to get lost in the world that an author has created. The best ones leave you wanting more and at a loss for words to describe just how good it is but I’ll try my best.

I live in a small town in South West England, just me and my dog Bonnie. I work part time in administration and really enjoy my job and the people I work with which I am very aware is not always the case!

I’ll read pretty much any sub genre within the mm genre. Since discovering it a few years ago, I rarely read anything else. One thing I won’t touch is horror, a definite no no for me!

Never ask me what my favourite anything is as I’ll have to give you a list of about ten or twenty things. How am I able to pick one food, book or film out of so many that I love?!
