About The Book

A kitsune, caged in magic; a child turned warrior; and a broken wolf, seek a chance at freedom, power, and love.

Kiran was captured and cursed by the fae to keep him from destroying their world. Nick was a child when he was ripped from the mortal realm and found himself trapped in Underhill. Bound together for survival, the duo never expected to escape into the human world. Toby, broken by the change from human to werewolf, finds himself drawn to the fae prince, and his rescued mortal servant.

The few remaining fae want the power of a kitsune at their fingertips. With Sebastian out of reach, the scattered courts are scrambling to cage Kiran and use his magic to fuel a resurgence. But Kiran is like all foxes, clever and determined to survive, even if that means binding himself to a broken wolf.

Can the trio find a way to unlock and harness the chaotic magic, protect themselves from the fae, and strengthen the bond forming between them?

The Review

Phew, this is quite an intense read with a lot of detail throughout the book and brings two worlds together with Nick and Kiran, bound to one another, leaving the dying Fae world and escaping to the human realm where they encounter Toby, a wolf shifter who has lived through unknown pain.

Kiran is a most complicated character, used and abused by those in Fae who he counts as brethren but also enemies. They are the ones who have hunted him and stolen his magic to keep themselves alive. However, no-one knows the true powers that he has and what he keeps hidden behind the biggest barrier within himself. Not even Nick, who he called and bound to him to save them both. Nick arrived in Underhill after escaping those who killed his family (event from book one). Time moves different there to in the human realm and so at least a couple of centuries have passed where he has learned, trained and protected Kiran, from their enemies but also himself when he wanted to give up.

Once back to earth, they work to find a way of healing Kiran with him having come so close to death. Unbeknownst to them, they have a new protector in Toby and Nick finds himself drawn to the young man. All three are at odds with this new development but also the constant attacks on Kiran with those who still want his power. Some quite intense scenes, both physical and mental, have new life and power coming to the trio whilst it also expands their connection. It is definitely not smooth sailing, Kiran especially being the hardest to convince of what they could have together, the love that Nick has for him and that he doesn’t have to do it all alone.

The author has created an amazing world containing shifters, fae and talk of gods. The imagery written makes it so easy to visualize and fall into the world and story but on occasion it does feel a little over complicated, getting lost in just how much was being said but not, at the same time. It’s not a cliffhanger ending but we are left with a tantalizing hint of what is to come, which I can see leading to another battle and the development of Sebastian and Kiran with all of their powers.

This is the fourth book in the series and though I think it is helpful to have read them in order, it is possible to read this as a standalone but I do recommend you read book one at a minimum to give you the basic information of the world and the main characters included.

Four stars.

Please read trigger/content warnings – talk around past events of rape and abuse.

The Reviewer

Hello all, my name is Xanthe and I am excited to be a reviewer for the PRG.

I read a lot, every night for at least 4-5 hours and I love to get lost in the world that an author has created. The best ones leave you wanting more and at a loss for words to describe just how good it is but I’ll try my best.

I live in a small town in South West England, just me and my dog Bonnie. I work part time in administration and really enjoy my job and the people I work with which I am very aware is not always the case!

I’ll read pretty much any sub genre within the mm genre. Since discovering it a few years ago, I rarely read anything else. One thing I won’t touch is horror, a definite no no for me!

Never ask me what my favourite anything is as I’ll have to give you a list of about ten or twenty things. How am I able to pick one food, book or film out of so many that I love?!
