New Release: Emissary – A.L. Morrow

New Release: Emissary - A.L. Morrow

QSFer A.L. Morrow has a new MM paranormal romance out (angel/demon): Emissary.

The line between angel and demon is razor thin. No one knows this better than Kai.

As an Emissary of death, darkness follows Kai like a shadow, leaving him touch-starved and lonely. Tormented by the error in judgment that killed his only love, he accepts an assignment to redeem himself: hunting down the demons destroying the mortal realm. But fate takes a turn, and Kai finds himself drawn to one of his targets instead.

Demonic martial arts expert Byron Black has struggled to survive his entire life. He has fought for every breath he’s taken and each bite he’s eaten, yet in the instant when his demise finally seems inevitable, death incarnate steps forward and spares him. Kai is as beautiful as he is terrifying, and although Byron suspects the angel’s interest in him is more than it appears, he can’t stay away.

Together, the pair search for answers regarding who wants Byron dead—and why—but uncovering the truth might destroy them both in the process. Can Kai defeat his inner demons to save the one that has crawled into his bed?

Set in the Star-Crossed Celestials universe, Emissary is a standalone novel featuring an array of creepy crypts and crematoriums, train-top sword fighting, an excessive number of buckles and buttons, and (of course) a Happily Ever After. It can be read as a prequel or companion story to the Star-Crossed Celestials Duet.

Potential triggers include scenes of violence and death, including on-page torture of an adult character by a family member. Readers sensitive to these issues may wish to proceed with caution.

Excerpt

For a shrine to death, Kai should have appreciated the crypt’s cold, barren beauty more, but there was something unsettling about the place. He wanted nothing more than to find an abandoned crevice deep enough within the chambers that Malvolio’s remains would never be discovered, then leave immediately. But navigating was slow and difficult. It would be easy to get lost down here. The deeper he went, the darker the cavern grew until the only light left came from the occasional cluster of candles scattered among the bones.

Candles.

Now that was interesting.

Candles didn’t simply light themselves, not even in a place with such strange, unearthly energy.

Kai took a tentative step forward around another turn in the maze. The light was brighter there, and soft voices echoed throughout the cavern. Someone was staying here, living here—many someones, perhaps.

“Lola, can you hand me that bit of wax over there?”

The voice was familiar, though Kai couldn’t place it. He peered around an archway, into a space where the crypt opened up more, widening into a proper room. An upside-down celestial rune had been scratched on one of the walls.

This was a demon enclave.

And then he saw him: a slim but muscular demon with floppy, dark hair and brandy-brown eyes. He paced through the space impatiently, scratching at his chin. That face had been cleanshaven last time Kai had seen it. Now, a faint shadow of stubble darkened his jawline. Still, the male was unmistakable.

The exact person Kai had been pretending he wasn’t avoiding was standing right in front of him.

Byron Black.
