About The Book

As the Light Festival draws near, the Něssyrians craft paper lanterns, awaiting the most important holiday of the year.

The Lyliňg Fighting House, too, prepares for celebration—by laying fresh sand onto the arena and setting up a match against their top pit fighter, the unrivalled Yüuzuki Ōren.

His last match. One he can’t win.

With the odds more than stacked against him, the gorgeous Barbarian is as good as dead. Unless his lover, healer Ĥaiatto Ẽkana, proves himself every bit as determined as he is clever and finds a way to protect the man he’d stop at nothing to save.

The Review

I have really enjoyed reading Kasia’s The Order series and this is part of that world but with different characters. Here we see healer, Haiatto, finding a way to keep his love, Yüuzuki, safe from death at the fighting house that Haiatto works for but Yüu is basically a prisoner of.

If you haven’t read books from this world before, I recommend reading the glossary as it helps with some of the names, terms, slang etc. It’s really in depth and helps you to fall into a fantasy world that the author has created, despite it being a shorter story. I found it easy to fall into and enjoy what’s going on. The connection between Haiatto and Yüu is strong, shown in their intimate moments and what, or who, Haiatto is willing to ask for help, showing that strength of a character isn’t just physical.

A great short story with plenty to keep you drawn in and entertained. I look forward to meeting whoever comes next in the series.

Four stars.

The Reviewer

Hello all, my name is Xanthe and I am excited to be a reviewer for the PRG.

I read a lot, every night for at least 4-5 hours and I love to get lost in the world that an author has created. The best ones leave you wanting more and at a loss for words to describe just how good it is but I’ll try my best.

I live in a small town in South West England, just me and my dog Bonnie. I work part time in administration and really enjoy my job and the people I work with which I am very aware is not always the case!

I’ll read pretty much any sub genre within the mm genre. Since discovering it a few years ago, I rarely read anything else. One thing I won’t touch is horror, a definite no no for me!

Never ask me what my favourite anything is as I’ll have to give you a list of about ten or twenty things. How am I able to pick one food, book or film out of so many that I love?!
