About The Book

In an infinity of starlight, through anguish and betrayal, can love still shine?

Raphael Lewis of the Mars Colony wanted nothing more than to fly his ship, Agatha, and to remain with his family.

Lord Teo of the Chi’NoSa had other ideas.

On a routine trip to the asteroid belt, Raphael and Agatha are injured by a Chi’NoSa ship. After healing, he is held prisoner by the Chi’NoSa Lord Teo. Unsure what is wanted from him, and unfamiliar with Chi’NoSa protocol, Raphael only wishes to return home.

Lord Teo’s curiosity about the Mars colonist he inadvertently injured is a new emotion for him. So are the inappropriate lust and confusion. When his temper gets the best of him, he finds he needs Raphael’s forgiveness so he may learn why this man evokes such feelings in him.

Through misunderstanding and politics, Raphael and Teo must learn how to bring together two such disparate species, all while navigating their own love story. Will the Chi’NoSa ever accept Raphael as Teo’s? Or will their love be destroyed in a supernova?

PLEASE NOTE: On page whipping, noncon/dubcon, aliens with questionable ethics, and man-on-alien love. If these are triggers for you, please choose another wonderful book!

The Review

Earth is a wasteland and few live there now. A human colony exists on Mars under a dome, and that’s where Raphael Lewis was born. The colony is run by women, and his grandmother is the leader. Women can have up to six husbands, so polygamy is alive and well on Mars.

Raphael is often sent out to collect minerals necessary for the enlargement of the dome and he takes his ship, Agatha, which was given to him at the age of sixteen. Agatha is sentient, and has grown to love Raphael as much as he loves her. She calls him Archangel, and will only respond to his orders.

On his way to procure supplies, his ship is damaged and he’s injured in an accident caused by the Chi’NoSa ship led by Lord Teo. Although it was not intentional, life as Raphael knew it will forever be changed. There has been conflict between the Chi’NoSa and the colony for ten years, and now with Raphael taken prisoner, tensions will only increase.

Raphael is treated with great care by Dasa, the doctor on board the ship and treated totally the opposite by Lord Teo. The Chi’NoSa are a very aggressive race and do not take favorably to any disobedience. Unfortunately, Raphael is not familiar with their ways, and is subjected to punishment.

He undergoes training in proper respect and manners, and learns the language so he can communicate. When the colony inadvertently damages one of the Chi’NoSa’s ships, it is Raphael that pays the price with ten lashes to his back.

Lord Teo is of the ruling class and his word is law. He demands total respect, but Raphael was brought up differently and once again pays the price when he talks out of turn. He’s locked up in a cell with no water or food. After three days, Lord Teo visits the cell to find him near death, and once again Dasa comes to his rescue and saves his life, a life Teo does not want to lose. Teo has come to have feelings for Raphael and those feelings are reciprocated.

Teo has no intention of ever letting Raphael go – he is too important. Little by little, Teo gives Raphael certain freedoms, starting with the ability to speak his mind if Teo isn’t in a bad mood. Teo believes he owns Raphael and Raphael refuses to be owned by anyone. Teo and Raphael are so different, but their love for each other hopefully can overcome that hurdle.

I loved the characters in this story – even Teo, who is a dictator and does not accept anything but total obedience. The only other character that questions Teo and speaks her mind is Agatha – she is a hoot.

This is the first book in the series but fortunately book two and three are available – I can’t wait to read them.

Five stars.
