The Review

This is book 2.5 in the Watchers paranormal series by R. R. Pearl. I have previously reviewed book one, “In the Valleys of the Earth” and book two, “The Seal of Daemons”.

There’s never a dull moment, as R. R. Pearl always throws Dr. Alexander Coimhead into the middle of trouble.

This story finds Dr. Coimhead and Praesidium Agent Jacob Einar exploring a stone structure, nicknamed “Hitler’s Stonehenge,” in Ludwikowice Ktodzkie, Poland.  The area is the site where the Nazis tested Project Riese, and where the Thule Society worked on occult powers.

Jacob has made many connections between the Hitler, Himmler, Bormann, and Hess that relate to the project and the society. There’s a lot to discover, and when Rafe shows up, he’s not happy with what he sees. Is Rafe jealous?

In the meantime, Dr. Clemy Armistead and Praesidium Professor Nori Lee St. Clair are exploring the Cooked Forest near Gryfino, Poland. They both get the odd feeling of being watched. Then Vinton Remington, Clemys ex, appears.

As Alec, Rafe, Erin, Clemy and Nori all regroup, they’re off to the explore the tunnels at the Project Riese site. Clemy has to confess to her mistake, when Vinton Remington is already there with some helpers.

While making their way through the tunnels, they are attacked by “Stsiga,” a predator similar to vampires. Pearl also shares how the word “Stsiga” was derived from different cultures.

The trouble doesn’t stop there! At every move they make, Vinton Remington keeps showing up, and this band of explorers finds themselves in danger that brings them close to death.

And in the midst of all the chaos, Rafe still keeps a secret from Alec. When Rafe’s brother Sariel shows up Rafe is faced with a horrible dilemma.

Although the book is set against the backdrop of the Nazi movement in Europe, Pearl does not glamorize it. Instead, she uses some historical subjects and places as backdrops for her alternative world: Die Glocke, Project Riese, Third Reich, the Thule Society, Vril-Ya, Crooked Forest, Ksiaz Castle and the Rynek Underground in Krakow. I recommend reading the “Author’s Note,” as it explains how the author came to create this fictional world and adventure story.

Besides the continuing steamy romance between Rafe and Alec, there’s adventure, danger, vampires, weird creatures, underground tunnels, fast-paced action, and moments of humor.

Of course there are always deceitful and evil characters in Pearl’s world: Vinton Remington and Katarzyna Szatanska Rzmijawska, Commanding Marshall of the Free Peoples of the Vril-Ya, and the leader of the Praesidium, Baroness Selma Von Fabre.

The Might of the Coming Vril-Ya is an entertaining, fun and not to be taken all too seriously read. I’ll be watching eagerly for the next installment. Soul Bond!

Hi, I’m Maryann, I started life in New York, moved to New Hampshire and in 1965 uprooted again to Sacramento, California. Once I retired I moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 2011 and just moved back to Sacramento in March of 2018. My son, his wife and step-daughter flew out to Florida and we road tripped back so they got to see sights they have never seen. New Orleans and the Grand Canyon were the highlights. Now I am back on the west coast again to stay! From a young age Ialways liked to read.

I remember going to the library and reading the “Doctor Dolittle” books by Hugh Lofting. Much later on became a big fan of the classics, Edgar Alan Poe, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and as time went by Agatha Christie, Ray Bradbury and Stephen Kingand many other authors.

My first M/M shifter book I read was written by Jan Irving the “Uncommon Cowboys” series from 2012. She was the first author I ever contacted and sent an email to letting her know how much I liked this series. Sometime along the way I read “Zero to the Bone”by Jane Seville, I think just about everyone has read this book!

As it stands right now I’m really into mysteries, grit, gore and “triggers” don’t bother me. But if a blurb piques my interest I will read the book.

My kindle collection eclectic and over three thousand books and my Audible collection is slowly growing. I have both the kindle and audible apps on my ipod, ipads, and MAC. So there is never an excuse not to be listening or reading.

I joined Goodreads around 2012 and started posting reviews. One day a wonderful lady, Lisa Horan of The Novel Approach, sent me an email to see if I wanted to join her review group. Joining her site was such an eye opener. I got introduce to so many new authors that write for the LGBTQ genre. Needless to say, it was heart breaking when it ended.

But I found a really great site, QRI and it’s right here in Sacramento. Last year at QSAC I actually got to meet Scott Coatsworth, Amy Lane and Jeff Adams.
