Announcement: Because You Despise Me, by JS Cook

Because You Despise Me

DSPP author JS Cook has a new historical book out: When Feldwebel Horst Stussel is murdered in Jake Plenty’s Moroccan brothel, local police chief Nicolas Renard suspects Jake’s involvement in the crime. Renard has loved Jake since their service in the Legion Etrangère during the Great War, but in this era of concentration camps, gas chambers, and the infamous pink triangle, his love for the American dare not speak its name. When sadistic Nazi officer Major Danzig, a fanatic who excels at the arts of torture and interrogation, comes to Maarif, it isn’t because of the Feldwebel. He is in … Read more

For Readers: He’s Expecting

We’re seeing a growing trend of MPREG stories – Male Pregnancy – across the board. These are achieved by a variety of means. Some are trans men who decide to have children. Sometimes there’s a scientific advance that’s credited. It could be a paranormal influence, or even a magical spell. Whatever the method, these story lines challenge our perceptions of traditional gender roles. So my questions today: Do you like to read Mpreg in a story? Why or why not? Do you find most Mpreg stories plausible? Join the chat

For Writers: Dieselpunk

dieselpunk

Today’s writer topic comes from QSFer MK Mancos: Dieselpunk. A quick Google search reveals this from Wikipedia: Dieselpunk is a genre similar to that of its more well-known cousin “steampunk” that combines the aesthetics of the diesel-based technology of the interwar period through to the 1950s with retro-futuristic technology and postmodern sensibilities. Coined in 2001 by game designer Lewis Pollak to describe his role-playing game Children of the Sun, the term has since been applied to a variety of visual art, music, motion pictures, fiction, and engineering. Color me intriqued. So my questions today: Has anyone written Dieselpunk? How does … Read more

“Strain” by Amelia C. Gormley

Genre: Gay Erotic Science Fiction Length: Novel It’s post-apocalyptic Earth–Oregon, actually (I’m an Oregonian!). There was a terrible virus, which rampantly spread through the world’s population and basically turned people into zombies, killing most, and dooming the rest. Not only that, but several forms of the virus are airborne (that’s really bad news). As with quite a few post-apocalyptic survivors, Rhys Cooper has lived most of his life in a rural religious commune, and when zombies break into his family’s compound, he gets exposed. Lucky for him, the regional task force full of super human soldiers finds him, and they … Read more

For Readers: Strange Sex

Sex in Queer Sci Fi land can get… interesting. From alien appendages (tentacles, anyone?) to magical potions, from shifter sex to elf kink, LGBTIQ speculative fiction writers have explored the gamut when it comes to sexuality. One of my favorites so far is in an upcoming book by Angel Martinez and Bellora Quin. I can’t say too much about it (hello, spoilers), so let’s just say it involves the construction of a special table to, um, facilitate things. What’s the strangest speculative fiction love scene or sex scene you’ve ever read? And did you like it? Writers: This is a … Read more
