Angel’s Bits: Crowds Send Me Screaming or Introvert Conference-going

Scott and I just returned from Rainbow Con in Tampa this week, which was a fabulous time, but we just did a podcast on the Con with the 3M/Musketeers. Instead, I thought I’d talk about cons in general. Many of you are probably veteran con-goers and will be able to add advice from your own experiences for those QSF’ers (like Scott) who aren’t so familiar with cons. Crowds Send Me Screaming or Introvert Conference-going Conference season! It’s really a year-round thing these days but most of the important events for LGBT authors seem to happen throughout the summer and fall. … Read more

Rainbow Con Open Thread

RainbowCon

Hey all, So we landed safely at RainbowCon. In a couple hours, everything will kick off, so today we’re starting an open thread for the conference – everyone who’s here, feel free to post photos, thoughts, info, etc. :) We’ll leave this up and running throughout the con as our pinned post. Tomorrow, we’ll kick off a regular discussion topic too, for folks who couldn’t make it here this weekend. :) –Scott

Have Dinner with RainbowCon’s Guests of Honor!

RainbowCon

One of the best things about going to conventions and gatherings in the LGBTQ genre is that you get to meet some bigger names, minor celebrities who are creating amazing art or fiction that gives visibility to LGBTQ themes and characters. Even small cons like RainbowCon have Guests of Honor, and this year, we have something extra special planned. Alex Woolfson & Adam DeKraker (the creator and illustrator of the amazing gay webcomic, The Young Protectors) want to thank all their online supporters, from their Kickstarter backers to the patrons over at their Patreon page. Rainbow Con Still Has a Couple Author Spots Left

RainbowCon

Just got this from Kristina Piet, one of the organizers of Rainbow Con: We only have 5-7 author slots left (we’re in the process of updating our lists again, since there have been quite a few more registrations the last couple weeks). Àuthor registration is $125 for the four-day conference and comes with the perks of being listed as an Attending Author, having the opportunity to put items into the welcome bags, and promote themselves by appearing on panels, having an author reading, and being part of the author signing. And if they can’t make it out, there are always … Read more

What Are the Best Cons?

Today’s question comes from QSFer Angel Martinez – “What are the best cons?” I have to admit, as a neophyte writer, I haven’t been to any writer conferences yet, at least as a published author. I did attend a conference about 15 years ago in Berkeley for sci fi writers, and was personally snubbed by Mercedes Lackey, something of a point of honor for me. And I’m attending Rainbow Con in Tampa with the QSF crowd next July. So help me out here, some of you more experienced writers – what are your favorite cons, and why? What are the … Read more
