Excerpt (1000 words max) Tetsuro collided with the hunter, sending them both to the ground. Beneath him, the hunter cried out in pain. Before Tetsuro could blink, he was on his back.
Osborne was gone.
And the hunter was on top of him, holding the tip of a dagger to the soft spot at the base of Tetsuro’s throat.
Tetsuro froze.
It was easy to do with the hunter’s weight pinning him down.
The man was taller and heavier than Tetsuro by nearly a foot and at least fifty pounds. Under other circumstances, Tetsuro didn’t think he would have much trouble disarming the human, but he’d lost a lot of blood and every time he moved, the tips of the blades brushed against something that might have been important.
They were both breathing heavily, Tetsuro more than the human.
Most of the man’s face was covered with a scarf similar to the one Tetsuro was wearing. Only his dark, hooded eyes were visible, surrounded by long, thick lashes. A long scar ran above his eyebrow and down to the bottom of his eye socket. His skin was the colour of desert sand, darker than Tetsuro’s but lighter than Elyes Jaouhari’s.
The man was shouting in Arabic that was almost too musical to really be aggressive.
“I don’t know what you’re saying,” Tetsuro said slowly.
The sounds and syllables didn’t feel quite as seamless as he wanted them to. With the blood filling his mouth, he wasn’t sure if he was even coherent.
Tetsuro swallowed. The motion made the tip of the blade at his throat break skin just enough to draw blood.
