RIP Mike Resnick

Mike Resnick

Sci fi writer and editor of Galaxy’s Edge Magazine Mike Resnick has passed away after a two month fight with cancer. Mike was the first person (and only, so far) in the mainstream sci fi market to buy my stories (two of them) and will be greatly missed. I had the pleasure of speaking with Mike a few times on Facebook. He was unfailingly kind and urged me to submit my stories directly to him instead of going through the gatekeeping process. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. If you care to donate, there’s a Kickstarter to help … Read more

ANNOUNCEMENT: Lord of Thundertown, by O F Cieri

Lord of Thundertown

O F Cieri has a new queer sci fi book out: “Lords of Thundertown.” In the movies, Thundertown was depicted like a real town, with boundaries, Folk-run businesses, and a government. In real life, Thundertown was a block here or there, three businesses on the same side of the street, an unconnected sewer main, or a single abandoned building. When an epidemic of missing person cases is on the rise, the police refuse to act. Instead, Alex Delatorre goes to Thundertown for answers and finds clues leading to a new Lord trying to unite the population. No one has seen … Read more

SPACE: Earth-Like Planet Found “Nearby”

Earthlike Planet - NASA

A few months ago, a group of NASA exoplanet astronomers, who are in the business of discovering planets around other stars, called me into a secret meeting to tell me about a planet that had captured their interest. Because my expertise lies in modeling the climate of exoplanets, they asked me to figure out whether this new planet was habitable — a place where liquid water might exist. These NASA colleagues, Josh Schlieder and his students Emily Gilbert, Tom Barclay and Elisa Quintana, had been studying data from TESS (Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite) when they discovered what may be TESS’ … Read more

Here We Go Again. Marvel to Introduce Same Sex Couple on New Mutants. Uh huh.

I’d been in the star trek fandom for some time, and was enjoying a whole boatload of fanfic, and when I suggested a story idea to a fellow writer, they told me to write it instead. Twenty-five stories later, I’d moved on to original characters and published a novella, Service to … Read more

U=(N/T)M*G: Decade

Cool cats, we’ve entered a new decade and I’m on the edge of my seat about it. The 2010’s were a circus for me, personally and publicly and politically, a roller coaster of wildness I’m hoping won’t be repeated. It wasn’t all bad. I started my writing career and had a son, got married and got divorced, made friends and lost friends and rekindled my zest for life. The last decade was something to behold, a time to look back and shake my head in wonder that I manage to knuckle under, survive it mostly on nothing by spite. The … Read more
