MOVIES: Eternals’ Kit Harrington Calls on Marvel for More LGBTQ+ Rep

Kit Harrington - Eternals

Kit Harington has called for more LGBT+ representation in superhero movies. Harington recently starred in Marvel’s Eternals alongside Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos – the first openly queer superhero in an MCU film. Phastos’ addition the franchise was eagerly welcomed by LGBT+ fans, and it seems that Marvel is keen to correct its dearth of queer representation, with the recent Loki TV series confirming its titular anti-hero as bisexual and gender-fluid. Eternals star Harington is among those thrilled by Marvel finally moving with the times. In a chat with Out, he said he was “incredibly proud and happy,” to have joined the … Read more

MOVIES: Eternals Banned in Three Countries Over Queer Content

Eternals

Marvel’s Eternals will reportedly skip cinemas in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or Qatar because it features LGBT+ characters. The film, which was slated for release in the region for 11 November, has been quietly pulled from websites advertising it across the Middle East. It is still listed as coming soon in the United Arab Emirates. One regional cinema chain told The Hollywood Reporter that Eternalshad been “banned” – yet, no explanation was given to them. Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that Eternals was put on the chop by local censors, who wanted edits that Disney, which owns the Marvel franchise, reportedly refused to make. MOVIES: “Review Bombers” try to Tank “Eternals” Over Gay Character

Eternals

Marvel’s newest entry into the cinematic universe, Eternals, comes out later this week, but “review-bombers” are already at work trying to tank the film’s reputation. They haven’t actually seen the flick, which comes out on November 5. Instead, they’re upset that it includes the first out gay couple – the superhero Phastos and his husband Ben. Describing the movie as “woke and mediocre” or worse, the fake reviewers trashed the film on IMBD, spurring the site to remove all the negative reviews flooding the page. Rotten Tomatoes, the other popular movie ratings site, does not allow users to review movies … Read more

COMICS: Four Joyously Queer Marvel Moments

Marvel Queer Moments

There aren’t many LGBT+ superheroes in films, and fans probably wish for Marvel to include more of its queer comic moments on screen. In recent years fans have witnessed the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) turning its focus towards inclusion and diversifying its content. But somehow in a world of skintight and sometimes camp costumes, LGBT+ representation has been virtually nonexistent. Loki was confirmed as the first canonically bisexual MCU hero in June, 13 years after Iron Man launched the MCU and a decade after Loki’s introduction in Thor. Loki will soon be joined by more openly queer heroes. Eternals is … Read more

Star-Lord - Marvel

Marvel Comics had abruptly cancelled the Guardians of the Galaxy comic book series featuring a bisexual Star-Lord. Marvel, without offering an explanation, has made the 22 September issue of the rebooted series about the galaxy-hopping squad the last. According to FanSided, per The Washington Times, the 18-issue relaunch helmed by writer Al Ewing that was meant to signal a massive step in LGBT+ representation has come to an end. “The End!
